Founded in 1964, the Bangalore University Library has evolved into a multidisciplinary knowledge hub supporting 650+ programmes across arts, sciences, humanities, commerce, law, and emerging disciplines. From curated print collections and special archives to powerful digital platforms, we blend tradition with innovation to advance research and lifelong learning.

Milestones On Our Journey

1964

Library established at Central College campus with 40,000 foundational volumes and rare manuscripts.

1973

Relocation to the Jnanabharathi campus; adoption of open access stack model and extended reading halls.

2004

Launch of the Digital Knowledge Centre with campus-wide e-resource access and KOHA-based automation.

2018

Green Library programme inaugurated — solar lighting, rainwater harvesting, and biodiversity mapping begin.

2024

Golden Jubilee of the Department of Library & Information Science celebrated with the DLL 4.0 international conference.
