ABOUT BANGALORE UNIVERSITY

Bangalore University is located in the Garden City of Bangalore aptly hailed as the “Cyber valley of India”, was established in July 1964 as an off shoot of the University of Mysore, primarily to include institutions of higher learning located in the metropolitan city of Bangalore and the districts of Bangalore, Kolar and Tumkur, which eventually became a separate University. Bangalore University has completed Fifty-two years of fruitful existence and has come to be hailed as one of the largest University of Asia before the trifurcation. Though originally intended to be a federal University, it has eventually emerged as an affiliating University. ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

The Department owes its origin to the vision and forethought of the former Vice Chancellor of Bangalore Univeristy, Dr. H.Narasimhaiah. It was commenced during 1973-74 under his able guidance and benevolence. It was the third in the series of LIS Courses started in the state. Realising the growth of academic, public and special libraries especially the last ones triggered out of establishment of number public sector undertakings like, HMT, BHEL, BEL and others in the City of Bangalore. The need for the specialised manpower to manage the library and information centres of these organisations was sought very much.The Department with some initial hiccups took on the lauching pad during the 1980s and is now considered one of well known school of library and information science in the country. It has been updating its curriculum to the contemporary needs of the LIS professional practices and adapting to the changes timely. Since the mid-1980s it introduced the basic curruculum on the application of computers in library systems and services and today it has developed a good IT Laboratory to prepare the students for the emerging library and information services environment. The Faculty members of the Department have also adopted to the changing needs and have acquired sufficient knowledge and skills for teaching, research in the emerging subjects.The Department is in the forefront of LIS Research with as many as 45 Ph.Ds. awarded during the last 25 years. ABOUT BABASAHEB CENTRAL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

The BUL is the oldest university library in Bangalore, a lush green surrounding area and is an internationally renowned center of reading environment. The University Library aimed at supporting Student community in their studies and in making good use of knowledge by using library services; Library also help to locate, select and acquire the information needed from what may seem like a rather daunting mountain of material. The Library also created Green Library Learning Environment by planting thousands of plants around the library and established Digital Library services through providing mobile apps to access e-Resources from online and offline, provided specialized system workstations where software installed systems for visually-challenged students learning.
